On the so-called "writers" and self-insert stories
I'm sure most people have this kind of friend. They will come up to you and ask you if you like to read. Whether you like it or not, they would tell you about a story that they have been writing. It's not done yet since they have so much ideas in their heads, but they did managed to put it down. "my other friends tell me I'm talented" they will tell you, "just read it and tell me what you think".
I don't know about other people but these kind of people annoys me. For one thing, I have a certain genre that I like to read, and it's called "Good Stories" If I get deviated from that genre, it would generally piss me off. I don't want to waste my time reading crap. Reading takes time, and once you've read something it would take years just to forget about it.
That's why I made the above. An author is someone who writes really well. Their works get published for a reason, they write well, and the contents are for the good of humanity. I've had my thesis published at school (lol) and being in grad school, I've co-authored/conducted several grand experimental researches. (just done with the third... the most recent one of them might get published according to the department). Not to mention, I've authored several scripts done in front of schools and classes. Do I call myself an author and brag it to everyone? no. I just write it down here cause it's just a fact that I know how to write. I'm just a writer. And I'm no different from everyone else. I find my works mediocre. =P
A lot of people seem to think that just because they can string a bunch of words together, they're already a good writer. They think so highly of themselves and it is very very annoying once they start rubbing it to your face that they've written an unfinished story. Most of these people I've met are either 1.) teenagers or 2.) people who are really immature. take note I said most!
Of all the stories I've read, the only story I've taken a liking to was from a friend who wrote a story about two best friends, the narrator of which was starting to fall in love with the BFF. Yes it's a Brokeback story. But the fact that he was able to write the tale in Filipino makes me bow down. Filipino is hard to use without boring the audience. Instead I felt consumed. He made a good story.
The rest are meh. Either Gay porn or self insert stories. I've made self-insert stories too, and it is embarrassing. I say it's a good way to vent out frustrations. But if it encourages you to live your life in a fantasy world, then I'd say, stop. Write only to stay sane, not the other way around.
What I hate most is that they'll ask you to read an unfinished story. Why is it unfinished? I get this response "It's because i'm waiting for something to happen in my life". Like I said, they are self-insert stories. Well news flash. If you want a self insert story why don't you just make a blog and write down accurately what's happening instead of fantasizing? If you want to write a story, with your life as an inspiration, then end it before your life ends. Remember, fiction is make-believe. =_= There are a lot of aspiring writers. But only chosen ones are given the title of "Author"
